Hangar 2 Habitat

The project understands the urban scale of the Tempelhof airport, which is enormous compared to anything else in Berlin, as the most valuable aspect of its heritage status. Considering this, our project intends to expand the main Tempelhof wing vertically. Using the H2 hangar as a prototype or first step of a gradual transformation, will allow development to react to changing circumstances. This brings the whole situation into a more graspable scale, making it easier to stop waiting for perfection and start the development! The expansion is meant to reactivate and add value to the existing building through the incorporation of an improved circulation system in which citizens of Berlin will bring movement and life to the location. The current building is adapted while also being highlighted with the new structure but left enough leeway to react to the needs of its surrounding and new inhabitants.
