We see and feel it every day: Workers who can no longer afford the city they build, young people who cannot leave their parents‘ home, tenants pushed out of their neighbourhoods after renovation, empty buildings while people sleep on the street. The current housing market is putting profit over people and the planet. 

The emergence of a new hyperobject?

The Housing Crisis has reached a scale that makes it almost impossible to escape its effects. All throughout our cities we can find traces and fragments appearing in the places we inhabit. Never visible as a whole, its many faces appear to the city and its residents. In the spirit of Timothy Morton‘s hyperobjects we try to embed, link and assemble the phenomena and places we encounter into larger processes and systems: not trying to escape them but facing the complexity they bring. While carefully looking at the world around us we will reflect how and if we can still productively interact with these larger than life frameworks.
