Save the tower?! We want to engage with architecture beyond the discipline‘s traditional bubble. We designed and placed physical stickers across Berlin – simple, fleeting interventions meant to engage with the space and the viewer's perception thereof.
This concept of the sticker was then translated into a metaphorical form and applied across various social media platforms. By using intentionally blunt, sometimes tasteless designs, and by choosing demolition as our narrative, we evoked strong reactions to spark emotion and discourse.
We distilled four main characteristics: immediacy/ fleetingness, simplicity, emotional impact and ambivalence. The design has to be simple enough to communicate within one fleeting moment, yet reaching that simplicity requires the compression of a complex narrative into a single statement, which makes the sticker inherently ambivalent. To capture this very essence, we used the hyperbole – an intentional exaggeration for emphasis or effect – as a rhetorical tool. It provided a framework to use sensationalism and to amplify emotions on the level of the narrative, but also to use deliberately exaggerated taglines on the level of production.
This materialized in the fictional demolition of Berlin’s TV tower and in each tagline functioning as a conceptual sticker – statements that compress the message of a given medium into one compelling, attention-grabbing phrase. The sticker, then, is no longer a physical object, but a concise, provocative and emotionally charged conceptual tool to critique and change the current perception of the physical space… and leaving a trace in one's mind.
